ARTIST STATEMENT

Themes in my work deal with issues of self-control, over-indulgence and internal conflict. It deals predominantly with representing these inward-looking themes in an uncanny, somewhat visually jarring yet still easily palateable, candid manner. ‘Everything you need is inside of you’ is an adage I live by; so the interpretation of the aforementioned themes is also an inward looking conversation with myself. The naturalistic style that most of the figures are drawn in, is meant to make the work relatable enough to the viewer [an actual human being] but it is clear that the figures are not actual human beings; their race and ethnicity is ambiguous, so as to emphasise that the work is a representation of a broad introspective agenda.
